Oil Spill Technical Center makes a forum with UK Infoterra Company on Satellite Remote Sensing

On 31st Mar., the representatives from Oil Spill Response Technical Center made a forum with the experts from UK Infoterra Company in China MSA. The forum was about the research and application of the satellite remote sensing in marine pollution monitoring and marine safety.
 
In the forum, the expert from UK introduced the company's worldwide oil spill database which was made of a large number of synthetic aperture radar satellite data archive and covered about 60,000 square kilometers of the world's water. The database could provide various imagery interpretations and the results of oil spill. In addition, the experts examined the marine monitoring services by the combination of optical radar and radar satellite, such as illegal discharge of ships, traffic flow analysis, smuggling and piracy. Following the introduction, the representatives from Oil Spill Response Technical Center discussed some relevant technical problems with experts.
 
The representatives from the Center said that they had known more about the use of satellite remote sensing in the maritime law enforcement, and the forum would be useful to improve the monitoring service of satellite remote sensing. They also showed they would make more such forums with foreign companies and institutes to provide technical support for the maritime law enforcement.
